Middle school girls see New York City architecture in new light

    By Richard McGovern

    April 14, 2016

    – one of New York’s leading morning news shows – recently aired a segment on the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app’s New Heights: Discovering Classical Architecture program. A special collaboration between the Marymount School of and the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app, New Heights introduced eighth grade girls at Marymount to classical architecture and the related arts through interactive classroom instruction and weekly field studies.

The classes were led by ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app educators, architects, architectural historians, and artisans over the course of 10 weeks. In addition to participating in hands-on plaster demonstrations, the students visited sites around New York City, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, historic mansions of Fifth Avenue, and Marymount's own Beaux-Arts style building.

Following the success of New Heights, the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½app hopes to introduce the curriculum at others schools across the country. To learn more about the program, please email [email protected].
